Supporting Positive Behaviour
We aim to create and maintain an environment of mutual respect and understanding in which all students, parents, staff and governors can participate and take responsibility for the learning process.
Behaviour Policy
Objectives:
- To establish an ethos of positive and appropriate behaviour throughout the school
- To raise self-esteem
- To enable everyone to recognise their potential and strive towards achieving it
- To engender a recognisable and achievable level of motivation
- To enable everyone to realise their influence as an individual within a group, the school and the wider community
- To respect others and the environment
- To ensure consistent practice in line with the aims of the policy
- To recognise the need for flexibility in practice
- To ensure consistent principles
- To increase the involvement of parents in implementing this policy
Entitlement
Every student has the right - to an environment conducive to learning, to know his/her level of achievement and have it duly recognised.
Every member of staff is entitled - to support when taking appropriate action in encouraging pupils to develop as responsible members of the community.
The School is entitled - to commitment from all members of the school community in upholding this policy.
Responsibility
Every individual has the responsibility to allow the learning process to take place
The Use of Exclusion
The school will consider exclusion, either fixed-term or permanent, in line with guidance and the latest advice given by the DCfS and the LA, for the following activities:
- Disruptive behaviour which interferes with the learning opportunities of others
- Actual physical violence towards students or staff
- Conduct which endangers self or other students
- Illegal and unlawful activities on school site, eg drugs, alcohol or theft
- Racial or sexual abuse
- Harassment or intimidation of students or staff
Students returning from fixed-term exclusion will be readmitted and re-integrated with strategies to help provide a successful outcome and not further failure. Students will be made aware of more serious sanctions if behaviour does not improve. The ultimate sanction is permanent exclusion when other strategies to help change a student's behaviour have failed.
