On Friday 6th October a group of Year 7 and Year 8 students went along to hear a very inspirational talk from TV presenter turned author, Clare Balding. Clare talked about her two books “The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop” and the “Racehorse Who Disappeared”; which were based on her real life experiences. For example: The Horse Who Disappeared was actually about Shergar the horse who famously won the 1981 Derby, sadly later he was kidnapped, never to be found. She shared some enriching stories from athletes, whom she has encountered throughout her career. Stories of perseverance, encouragement to “dare to be different” and to “not to worry about failing – try it any way!” She said think of our athletes when you need motivation, who are just like us; they have to do the boring everyday stuff too, enabling them to do great things.
Two of our students Lillie-May Bale and Jorja Absolom, were lucky enough to be picked to go up onto the stage with Clare to share stories which they are currently writing. Our students came back from the event saying that the experience was “fun, inspirational, educational and exhilarating”.
