EPCS hosts the Berkshire Book Award

EPCS hosted the Berkshire Book Award Pen2Page 2018 event on 7th February and all of our Year 7 students attended along with visiting schools. Joffre White is a very popular author of young adult fiction including Frog – The Series and Earthland.

Joffre gave a very animated, entertaining performance, covering his interesting childhood and careers in music and acting before starting out as a writer. After having many books rejected he was finally successful and his strong message was to never give up, believe in yourself and to try, try again! There was a busy and interesting Question and Answer session followed by a book signing.

The second part of the event was for Sharon Cripps, the Berkshire Book Award Chairman, to announce the shortlisted books for this years award. The books were chosen by Berkshire school children and students can now vote for their favourite book at www.berkshirebookaward.org.uk

The shortlisted books are: Bodyguard Assassin by Chris Bradford, Murder in Midwinter by Fleur Hitchcock, Alex Rider, Never Say Die by Anthony Horowitz, The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan, The Guggenheim Mystery by Robin Stevens and The Wizards of once by Cressida Cowell.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed this event and engaged well with the author and the many students attending from other schools.

It was a pleasure to host this years Pen2Page and to welcome visiting schools and Joffre White to our school. Many thanks to Berkshire Book Award for arranging this event.
