Assessment covers grades A*–G to cater for students of all abilities. Students are assessed through internal classroom assessments every 4-6 weeks (approx.), to establish their progress and highlight any areas of concern that they would need to address in their learning.
The students complete a mock examination in year 10 before starting their coursework.
The course is assessed by Unit1- Written Paper 40% of total marks and by Unit 2 – Designing and Making Practice 60% of total marks and consists of a single design-and-make activity selected from a choice of set tasks, consisting of the development of a made outcome and a concise design folder and/or appropriate ICT evidence. These tasks are reviewed every two years.
The design folder should consist of approximately:
- 20 pages of A3 paper (minimum)
Students will spend approximately 45 hours on this activity. As part of the evidence submitted, students will include photographs of the finished products as well as photographs at various stages of the process.
Useful equipment / resources
Students will be expected to purchase most of their cooking ingredients as practical lessons require. This will be at least once a week (approx.) during Year 10. You will need to supply general equipment to store and transport items between home and school.
The Book we use regularly in the GCSE: Food Technology course is: AQA Design and Technology, Food Technology. Nelson Thomas. ISBN – 9781408502723
