Autumn Term (term 1 and 2)  Y10

Baseline assessments, skills audits, Unit 1 Skills Development coursework working as a solo, ensemble in varied art forms. Completing log books to track progress and updating skills audits.

Spring Term (term 3 and 4)  Y10

Unit 2 Mock Final Showcase – responding to a practice exam brief working as an ensemble to research, plan and prepare a practical performance to perform in exam conditions.

Summer Term  (term 5 and 6) Y10

Contextual understanding of work related aspects, working as a production team and researching venues and health and safety methods.
Autumn Term (term 1 and 2)  Y11

Review skills audits and Unit 1 Skills development coursework, focussing on strengths in strongest art form. Completing log books to track progress and updating skills audits.

Spring Term (term 3 and 4)  Y11

Unit 2 Final Showcase exam brief given and responding working as to research, plan and prepare a practical performance to perform in exam conditions for an external moderator. Completing further Unit 1 Skills Development coursework and final review of skills development.

Summer Term  (term 5 and 6) Y11

Coursework completed.

How we assess students:

Students are assessed for Unit 1 Skills Development coursework in the following areas:

-Skills Development

-Planning & Research

-Practical Activities

-Contextual Understanding of Work related aspects

-Evaluation of our own and others’ work

This is assessed through a combination of practical and written tasks focussed on and around students’ own development plan.

Unit 2 Final Showcase is assessed by an external moderator from the exam board in the following areas:

-Planning & Preparation

-Practical Activities

-Evaluation

How homework is set:

Within Performing Arts we set both written and practical homework. Students are encouraged to use the facilities in school to rehearse for upcoming performances and assessments.  Certain assessed pieces of coursework will be carried out in controlled conditions.

How parents/carers can support their child:

We encourage all parents/carers to discuss their upcoming performances with them and watch/listen to offer them support.
