Autumn Term (term 1 and 2) Y9

Year 9 will start their time in Destiny by considering their future careers. They will have the opportunity to research their career ideas using CascAid.

Later in the term, students will look at drug abuse, their physical and mental effects it can have on the individual as well as the wider impact it can have on society.

Spring Term (term 3 and 4) Y9

The academic year continues with a unit on Politics. This unit examines the role of the Government, explore democracy and give students the opportunity to participate in a debate.

As students continue in their first year of their GCSE courses they will look at a variety of study skills to aid them through this and future stages of their education.

Summer Term (term 5 and 6) Y9

The Summer term starts with a unit of Mental Health. Students will discover the signs and symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and develop their understanding of how individuals may be suffering with these invisible conditions.

Year 9 finishes with a unit on Sex and Relationship Education. They will look at online safety and sexting and the impact it can have. They will also look at the laws that surround sex, the spread of sexually transmitted infections and teenage pregnancy and parenting.

Autumn Term (term 1 and 2)  Y10

As students start their first year of their GCSE courses they will look at a variety of study skills to aid them through this and future stages of their education.

After this students will begin preparing for their mock interview. They will learn the importance of a good CV and letter of application as well as making a good first impression at an interview.

Spring Term (term 3 and 4)  Y10

During the first half of the Spring term Year 10 will continue their preparation towards their mock interview.

The term will continue with Sex and relationship education. Students will discuss the use of contraception and their own attitude towards sex, relationships and their personal responsibilities within this.

Summer Term  (term 5 and 6) Y10

The Summer terms continues with further sexand relationship education by discussing whether marriage is important in a relationship in today’s society. Students will also discuss sexual exploitation and domestic violence.  

In the final half term in Year 10, students will consider the concept of charity and raise money for a charity to be decided by their tutor group.

Autumn Term (term 1 and 2)  Y11

The first term of YEar 11 students will be developing the work they started last year by considering how to adapt the CV and letters of application for different jobs. They will have the opportunity to practice the interview techniques before undertaking another mock interview.

Spring Term (term 3 and 4)  Y11

As students enter the final stage of the GCSE courses students will be reminded of various study techniques and revision tools they should be using in preparation for their exams. They will consider the importance of prioritising their time and look at ways to avoid feeling overstressed.

Summer Term  (term 5 and 6) Y11

Students will finish the academic year by completing a sex and relationship education unit. They will examine different types of relationships and have the opportunity to discuss the topics of pornography and transgender.

How we assess students:

Students are not formally assessed in PSHE however students are encouraged to contribute and actively participate in lessons to gain vital and transferable learning skills.

How homework is set:

No homework will be set.

How parents/carers can support their child:

Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss PSHE topics with their child, to listen to their ideas and help them to develop their understanding.
