Financial Support (16-19 Bursary) – guidance notes
What does the fund support?
The bursary scheme is designed to help young people remain in education, and can be used to pay for travel costs, support for meals as well as equipment and books, includes specialist equipment which might be required to participate in vocational courses such as safety boots, overalls.
Who is eligible?
Those most in need, such as young people in care, care leavers, young people receiving income support and disabled young people receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance will receive a bursary of £1,200.
Schools, colleges and training providers will also be able to award bursaries to other students in ways that best fit local needs and individual circumstances.
How much will I receive?
Most students will receive a bursary of up to £190, which is in support of your access to studies.
How do I apply?
All students have to complete the application form; in full, incomplete forms will not be accepted. The necessary supporting information must also be provided at the time of submitting the application form. The bursary fund is limited so applications will be on a first come first served basis. You should be informed of the outcome of your application, by post, within 4 weeks following receipt.
