School Uniform

Our school uniform supplier is National Schoolwear Centres.

School Uniform

Our uniform is designed to be simple yet smart.  Students should be dressed for a working environment.  Our uniform is not dictated by trends in fashion and is not designed to be added to or accessorised by students.

As a school we are concerned that your child wears the correct items and that uniform is worn smartly.  Parents and carers are strongly advised to contact the school before purchasing an item outside of the guidance given on this sheet.  Should we have concerns about your child’s uniform we will contact you as we believe it is the responsibility of the parent or carer to ensure their child is correctly attired for the school environment.  Please ensure all uniform is named as our lost property service displays unnamed items for 2 weeks; if it is not claimed after this they are washed and sent to charity.

The Basics:

As a school we have kept the number of branded items* to a minimum to support inclusion.  They are available from The School Wear Shop in the Centre of Bracknell.

All students must have the following:

1.

A School Jumper* Navy Blue, old style (knitted) or from September 2009 a new style V necked Navy Blue Sweatshirt with school logo) - Year 7 requirement only.  We have changed the material from which the jumper is constructed as we believe the sweatshirt option offers better value for money and the fabric is preferred by students.

2.

A School Tie – this must be worn up to the neck with the knot of a suitable size so 3 stripes can be clearly seen.  There are two types of tie - Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 – check with the shop before purchase.

3.

A plain white shirt that can be buttoned up to the neck and is suitable for wearing with a tie.  The shirts must have no logos or embellishments of any kind.  A guiding principle is that the style and fabric selected would be appropriate for an office based work environment; these shirts are available from a range of suppliers including the major supermarkets for a minimum cost.

4a.

Plain black trousers – these must not be of a jeans or leggings style, or have multiple pockets.  If a belt is required it should be integral (trousers should have belt loops on the waist).  A guiding principle is that the style and fabric selected would be appropriate for an office based work environment.  Trousers of this type for both girls and boys are available from a range of suppliers including the major supermarkets for minimum cost.

4b.

Girls option onlya plain black or navy skirt – with no embellishments, length any shorter than on the knee.  The style and fabric selected would be appropriate for an office based work environment.  These skirts are available from a range of suppliers including the major supermarkets for a minimum cost.

5.

Footwear – plain black in colour should offer your child support around the ankle.  Heel height must be below 3cm.Trainers, canvas shoes, open-toed sandals, stilettos, sling-back shoes or boots of any kind including UGG styles are not allowed as these do not give adequate support to students putting them at risk of tripping.

6.

Coat - plain black or navy in colour suitable for the British weather and when worn with the jumper should offer enough thermal protection.  Any other items, for example hoodies, are not allowed as these are seen as additional fashion or embellishments.  Woolly hats - plain black or navy - may be worn on the way to school but not around the site during inclement weather.

7.

Socks and tights – plain black or navy – they should not be worn together.

Summer Basics:

An optional white polo shirt is available for use in the summer term only.  This may be worn with a plain navy baseball hat to offer protection against the sun.  Parents will be informed via the bulletin when the summer uniform may start being worn.  It is never worn in September on return from the summer holidays.

Make Up

Not permitted for students in Key Stage 3.  Do not let your child bring make up, aerosols or perfume sprays to school as using these may trigger asthma attacks.  Roll-on deodorants are permitted.

Key Stage 4 students may wear discreet make up suitable for a working environment but, again, if applied within a lesson context it will be confiscated.

Jewellery - if in doubt do not wear it.  Students with pierced ears may wear one plain stud in the lower earlobe only.  No other piercing of any description is allowed for reasons of Health and Safety.

All staff are expected to enforce school uniform.

School Physical Education Kit

Full PE kit must be worn for all PE lessons, clubs and training sessions.

Safe practise dictates that appropriate clothing and footwear are vital in the Physical Education environment. Students may only wear the kits as per the uniform list. The Kit has been carefully selected to ensure that it is clearly identifiable, smart, consistent and easy to purchase.

Other Information

All kit must be clearly named as any lost and found kit will be returned to welfare.

It is important to emphasise that Students must remove all valuables/jewellery before the lesson. DO NOT leave any items of any value in the changing room. Please ensure that all valuables are placed in the valuables box before the lesson. The school can only accept responsibility for items handed to the teacher for safe keeping.

We expect every student to be fully equipped for PE lessons in order to appreciate the value and benefit of physical activities. If students cannot participate in the PE lesson they should still bring in their kit and a letter or note from their parents/carers in their school diary, this should include the date, the reason for being excused, and the likely length of the absence and must be signed by the parent/carer.

Those students who have been excused from physical participation will be expected to take an active role in the lesson as an official, observer, recorder or critics. In this event we will still expect the student to change into full PE kit, the student’s teacher will provide additional tools for learning.
